In response to an increase in food insecurity, Broadview Public School will be starting a snack program at school. Supported by our School Council-BROADVIEW CARES, aims to ensure that all students have access to a healthy snack at school. It is our goal that all children and youth are set up to succeed in their day of learning, and we know that hungry kids can't learn.
The Snack Program doesn't discriminate or stigmatize. An important aspect of our program is that of "universal access". The School Snack Program wouldn't work if students felt stigma by participating, and so we don't screen our participants. We want to make sure every student feels welcomed into a warm community space, where they can eat nutritious food before starting the day prepared to succeed in their school day. Fruit bowls will be set up in each of our hallways for students to access at the start of the day and snacks (grains and protein) will be delivered to classes at first recess for those who would like to take one.
As this initiative is self-funded, we are inviting families to make donations to help run this program through the Broadview PS website.
